The company was established in 1968 and maintains offices in Piraeus.

In its long history over the years the company has acquired more than 110 vessels. Therefore, its experience is unique in the full essence of “how to run dry-bulk ships”. Dalex Shipping is a well established player in the field and has the capacity, aspirations and experience to further expand depending on market conditions.

Presently, the company owns, manages and is responsible for 2 bulk carriers. The main structure of the company, (other than the management itself), consists of the following departments, all working in a fully computerised environment for quick, paperless and efficient service.

Finance/Accounting Department

  • Controls the budgeting of the fleet in close liaison with the management of the owning company and puts forth, per category, cash-flow, and amounts due on account of forthcoming payments.
  • Payments are spread best, optimised for efficiency.
  • Fully audited accounts are provided at the end of fiscal year together with the actual running costs ascertained based on payments effected.
  • Projections made on request as per requirements.
  • Thorough checking of the Masters’ general accounts (MGA’s) in conjunction with port captaincy, operations and manning departments.

Operations Department

  • Follow up of the vessels’ performances in liaison with the technical department.
  • Close monitoring of all vessels’ communications with constant follow up, when corrective actions are necessary.
  • Arrangements for bunkers, bought from trustworthy suppliers at competitive prices and credit terms.
  • Fulfilment and execution of charter parties of charters’ terms and conditions in liaison with owners’ operation dept.
  • All operational contingencies are immediately dealt with in liaison with the owners’ operations department. In addition, it assists in the collection of required data to safeguard against chartering disputes, claims, etc.

Port Captaincy

  • Continuous follow up of the vessel’s maintenance with detailed, timely, scheduled works. Apart that, update reports are sent to the office, and maintenance progress is monitored closely.
  • Frequently, visiting the ships to ascertain proper structural condition, visual appearance and good operation.
  • Further, visits to discuss in person with the respective officers and crew any difficulties that may arise during ships operations.
  • As well as, attendance for assisting and co-ordinating matters such as the cleaning of holds for grain load readiness for ensuring no delays and/or extra costs.

Quality Department

  • Ensuring strict compliance from all departments with all regulatory frameworks as required by the International Safety Management code (ISM). For instance, including ship and head office internal audits, classification society issues, and flag registration issues.
  • Maintains company ISO, and oversees proper internal operations.
  • Maintains company security guidelines as required by the International Ship and Port Security regulations (ISPS).
  • Oversees charterers vetting inspections (Rightship, etc.) and required follow ups.

Technical Department

  • Ensures that the vessels perform striving for proper compliance with the warranties provided under the charter parties (avoiding off-hires from slow speed, overconsumption, etc.).
  • Frequent superintendent engineers onboard attendances to ensure proper standards are adhered to, through inspections, monitoring and face to face discussions with the engineer officers and crew concerning any problems related to ships technical issues and personnel.
  • Responsible for proper specification and scheduling of the vessel’s next drydocking as well as shipyard selection. All such arrangements are well communicated with the chartering department to achieve timely position in the Far East, where almost all dry-docking takes place.

Manning Department

  • Maintains contact with the ships and the crewing agencies to effect proper manning of the vessels.
  • Strives to optimise crew selection through proper performance records of crews, keeping quality officers and crew on Dalex ships.
  • Monitors the proper certification of all crews onboard.
  • Is responsible for the logistical arrangements for signing on and off of crews in close cooperation with the in house Travel agency.

Supply Department

  • Long established, close, worldwide contacts provide owners with the most competitive prices and credit terms.
  • Close monitoring of requisitions in conjunction with the respective departments.
    Under close supervision by higher management who personally authorise all orders.
